Cheney's Classic Kigers, located in Clements, California, has been involved with these magnificent, historic horses since 1989 when we discovered one lone Kiger in a corral at the BLM facility near Burns, Oregon.
Our bloodlines go back to the earliest gathers of this North American style Spanish horse in existence today.
Kigers are unique among the wild horses of the Americas in that they developed in isolation in the Steens Mountains of eastern Oregon. Extensive DNA testing has shown that they are direct descendents of the horses brought to this continent by the Conquistadors. Distinctively marked with a black dorsal stripe and markings up the legs, they have remained essentially unchanged over the centuries.
